I am a writer and researcher specialising in British and European culture from the birth of Chopin in 1810 to the death of Monet in 1926.
I am especially interested in the relationships between literature, music, the arts and philosophy.
My current research focuses on the generation of Romantic pianist-composers born in the 1810s and living in Paris in the early 1830s, with a special emphasis on the music and writing of Franz Liszt.
My previous work In Search of Vinteuil: Music, Literature and a Self Regained (Sussex Academic Press, 2010) responded to the descriptions of music in the work of Marcel Proust, and how these might be used to make sense of our own musical experiences.
